We have revised the Army Selection rules:

Players must select their armies using the Battle-forged method as detailed in the main rulebook page 117.

Players may select any number of Formations but cannot select the same Formation more than once.

Players cannot select Allies classified as ‘Come the Apocalypse’ in the main rulebook.

Players cannot select units or Formations that are designated as “Apocalypse”.

Players cannot select units that have a battlefield role designated as “Lord Of War”.

Players cannot select a Formation that includes a unit which has a battlefield role designated as “Lord of War”.

It is important for players to understand the differences among a Detachment, Formation, and a Unit when creating their Battleforged army. This is all detailed in the main rulebook and in each codex.

Having had some time now to work with the new seventh edition ruleset, we have made some changes to how armies will be selected when used at Astronomi-con events.

Armies will be able to be selected from up to five Astronomi-con Detachments as detailed below:

Lots of new content from GW here in the past few weeks.  Codex: Miltarum Tempestus which features units from the Schola Progrenium and Codex: Astra Militarum which details the forces of the Imperial Guard.

These new books present some content that we will be reviewing to see what things may need clarification in terms of how they will work at Astronomi-con.

Codex-Astra-Militarum

Astra Militarum content under review:

Warlord Trait: Old Grudges – allows the player to choose one 40k Codex and the Warlord and his unit have preferred enemy from all units from that codex.  Reviewing if preferred enemy should be set to one codex in advance for the course of the tournament.

Tank Commanders – how points for their tanks will be handled for Composition purposes.

Militarum Tempestus content under review:

Airborne Assault Formation – for the purposes of preparing reserves, how do units from this formation factor in.

Ground Assault Formation – Do Taurox Prime units in this formation count as Dedicated Transports, or as Fast Attack when scoring Composition.

New Codices – How will they fare at Astronomi-con?

Starting with this summer’s Astronomi-con Toronto three codices will be making their Astronomi-con debut.

Codex: Tau Empire, Codex Eldar, and the Iyanden supplement for Codex: Eldar will all be available for players to select.

Will these codices have a big splash at Astronomi-con this year?  What kind of army lists will we see at 1500 points?

Astronomi-con promotes a balanced army approach to army selection, formally with its Composition scoring and more subtly with the widely diverse scenarios.  With a 1500 point limit, generals are challenged to get even more out of their selections.  We are looking forward to seeing what kind of impact these new codices will have on Astronomi-con as a whole as well.

What are your thoughts on these codices entering the Astronomi-con tournament setting?

We’re a month away from our Toronto event and I’m pleased to say that we’ve reached the 60 player milestone!

We do have the ability to add a few more players, so if you still have a chance to be part of this year’s event.

A reminder that army lists should be sent to:  armylist@astronomi-con.com
We’d like to have everyone send in their lists by the end of June so that we have time to go over them to ensure correctness, as well as to score composition.
Army lists should be submitted in the following formats:  HTML, PDF, DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX, TXT

For those with Army Builder, please save your roster as a PDF and send it our way.

Be sure to include the following information:

  Your Name
  Codex
  Identify the Warlord
  Warlord Trait
The number of Psychic Powers and specific Disciplines for each psykers
Force Organization slot for each unit
  Points cost of each unit
Wargear options purchased for each unit

My fellow co-organizer Keith will likely have more to say on this subject as he’s taking care of verification and Composition scoring, but I wanted to give everyone a reminder at this point to get people thinking about their armies.
