We are extremely excited to announce that there will be an Astronomi-con Winnipeg event in 2020!

Things have fallen into place quickly so, we apologize for the short notice, but I know many have been waiting eagerly for the return of our events and we hope you all will be able to join us on the 11th &12th of January!
For 8th edition we’ve thrown caution to the wind and have embraced the narrative story-telling aspects we’ve always been known for and have translated that into a new narrative style event which has been well received.

Registration is now open and can be found: here

We are also excited to announce that the event will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion – St. James Branch #4. which should be a great space complete with on-site food and drinks – and parking!

2020 also marks the 20th year of Astronomi-con!  There will be plenty of things to look back on and share from all of the events we’ve held over the years – more on that in the near future!

We couldn’t be happier about the year ahead and we hope you’ll join us in what’s shaping up to be a huge amount of fun on the battlefields of the 41st millennium!

We’ve released the Scoring rubric for the upcoming Open War! event at JimCon 7 on Saturday, November 18th.

As primarily a narrative event, we wanted to ensure that all aspects of the hobby were well represented – and thanks to player feedback from previous events we’ve posted scoring guidlines for our attendees to ensure all participating are able to score their opponents accurately.

We’re looking forward to a great day of 40k and hope you can join in on the fun!

We’re excited to announce the first Toronto event of the year, taking place on April 30th and May 1st, 2016!  We will once again be returning to the Best Western Plus in Milton Ontario.  Registration information will be forthcoming.

This event will be the traditional 1500 point tournament.

At this time we are working on plans for a second Toronto event later in the year with somewhat different format.  More details on this later in the year as we put it all together.

As Imperial Guard players transition to the new Astra Militarum codex, while much may seem the same, many things have changed.  I’ll be posting a series of articles about some of the units which have seen changes and hopefully provide some insights, tactics, and general information about how the unit has evolved.

With the latest Apocalypse release, we’re excited to incorporate these new rules into one of our flagship scenarios:

Sink The Baneblade!

This Scenario has evolved over the years from the original 3rd edition scenario which made its debut at the very first Astronomi-con event in 2001, but the story is the still the same:  Two forces are moving into position to engage in battle, when a runaway Baneblade shows up to make the situation even more desperate.   Both players will need to take on the enemy as well as the Baneblade to prevail.

Here’s a blast from the past!  The original v3 scenario from 2001:  Sink The Baneblade 2001 PDF

And the new v6 scenario which will be used at Astronomi-con Toronto:  Sink The Baneblade v6.0.0.0.pdf

Things have certainly changed over the years!

Nicholas Wansbutter host of Swords and Space radio, had the organizers of Astronomi-con on his most recent show.

We spent over an hour discussing the Warhammer 40,000 game, including its background, races, and what makes this hobby so special for us and the greater community.

Iyanden Supplement – Already Sold Out!

It has been less than a week since GW released the Iyanden Supplement (webstore only) release.

It is already sold out in North America and will need to be restocked before people will be able to order it once again.

This can be viewed as a good thing, for GW, as the demand for these supplements appears to have been greater than initial projections – or perhaps it is more likely the case that GW has limited the availability of these products to generate a false sense of demand.  If it is in fact the former, then we can expect to see more of these sorts of releases.

The fact that these are Direct Services only releases which actually contain playable army lists and rules is a bit troublesome when you consider that up until now all core rules have been available for purchase at GW retail stores as well as independent retailers.  Combined with a price-point that is the same as a full codex, it this leads to some questions about the way GW is handling this line of business and how this will project into future releases.

This on the heels of GW’s latest Iyanden “One Click” Ghost Warrior collection offer.  Interesting to note that the Iyanden Supplement isn’t included!
